Minutes of Public Regular Meeting –
Tuesday, September 11, 2007
There was a regular meeting of the Cable Advisory Council called to order at 7:05 p.m., Tuesday, September 11, 2007 by Chairman, Carmella Amodeo at the Charter Communications facility, Newtown, Connecticut.
ATTENDEES: Kate Donahue (Trumbull), Carl Braun (Woodbury), George Fletcher (New Milford), Gregory Davis (Roxbury), John Bell (Kent), Carmella Amodeo (Newtown), Eugene Rosen (Newtown), Deborah Cox (Trumbull), Jim Lang (Trumbull), George Linkletter (Sherman), Stephanie O’Rourke (Kent).

Richard Hilton discussed his disappointment with Charter in 3 key areas: Internet: he is dissatisfied with the speed and price of the Charter product. Customer Service: in particular the price Charter charges to replace a modem and Digital/HDTV: Charter charges a monthly fee. His prior experience was with Cablevision Systems on Long Island. Greg G. from Charter shared that they are working on technical upgrades that will allow for speeds up to 16MB.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES:
Minutes from July, 2007 meeting. Carl Braun motion, Deborah Cox second, 9 Yea, 0 Nay and 2 abstentions..
Carl reported that the books are fine and we have $29,260.38 total between checking, money market and CD. Motion to accept the report by George Linkletter, 2nd by Gregory Davis. Unanimous.
CHARTER COMMUNICATIONS REPORT.
Paula handed out a list of programming additions including ESPNU (part of Sportsview tier), Game Show Network, Mojo HD, A&E HD, History Channel HD. She expects more HD product by year end.
George Duffy is the new head of technical services and engineering for the region, replacing Greg Garabedian.
Greg discussed the long term issue of analog broadcast stations having to go dark in February 2009 so the FCC can auction off that bandwidth. They are starting work on the 2008 budget which will address Internet speed and HD offerings, among other things.
He also shared with us that Charter is funding Greg Van Antwerp’s tape recycle program for next year.
Next meeting we will meet Tom Cohan, the new head of Government Relations.
COMMUNICATIONS & CORRESPONDENCE:
The group had a long discussion about the traffic light situation in Trumbull (Main Street/Rte 25 and Tashua Road). Essentially, the Council asked Charter to help move the process along since it is a very dangerous intersection.
The Council asked Charter for previous results to the annual Charter subscriber survey so we can look for trends. Jackie Saulnier will be asked for this info by Paula.
We got a followup letter from Mr. Bongiorno who spoke at the July meeting about his frustration with the lack of international programming on the Charter lineup. Greg will have Dennis Jerome (Marketing ) respond.
Grant Process: Jim will pick up the ball and work on it and Carmella will get his next draft to everyone.
